5 – Number of unbeaten, untied major college teams there will be at the end of the regular season if Cincinnati beats Pittsburgh and Texas beats Nebraska this weekend.   Not since 1950 have there been more than five, and only once since 1951 have there been as many as five.  That was 2004 when there was a bit of a rumpus when unbeaten Auburn did not get a shot at the national title.

1 – Number of wins Texas needs to earn a berth in the BCS national title game.  Even though the Longhorn are ranked No. 3 at the moment, they have the best odds of getting to the national championshoip game.

3 – Number of Heisman Trophy contenders (out of a total of four) who will be playing in conference championship games on Saturday — Alabama’s Mark Ingram, Florida’s Tim Tebow and Texas’ Colt McCoy.

6 — Number of times Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck has been sacked this season.   Stanford quarterbacks have been sacked just seven times overall, the second fewest in the country.

35 – The touchdown-to-interception margin for Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore, who has thrown 38 TD passes and three intercpetions.

23 — Stanford’s Associated Press national ranking this week.

2-0 — Cal’s record this season without Jahvid Best, with both wins coming against nationally ranked teams.

138 — Number of receptions by Bowling Green’s Freddie Barnes, four shy of the NCAA single-season record, set by Houston’s Manny Hazard in 1989.  (Hazard went to Oceana High School in Pacifica.)  Bowling Green will play in a bowl game.

0 – Amount of class shown by Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis by not speaking to the media after the loss to Stanford.

83 — The age Joe Paterno will be during Penn State’s bowl game if it plays in the Capital One Bowl, as many predict.

0 – Number of times before this season that the winner of the Oregon-Oregon State game was guaranteed a Rose Bowl berth, no matter which team won.   Saturday’s Oregon-Oregon State game will be the first time that’s the case.

2 – Number of former City College of San Francisco quarterbacks playing this weekend with an automatic berth in a BCS game on the line — Oregon’s Jeremiah Masoli and Nebraska’s Zac Lee.

1 – Number of upsets Texas Christian needs this week to earn a berth in the national championship game.   If Nebraska beats Texas, the Horned Frogs probably are in.
